Guilt and Suicides

Nothing is more wasteful than to see under utilization of existing resources especially for a country like India and when it comes to resources what better resources can be than the Humans.

Suicides are common and prevalent and most of us have known such cases from our life. Suicides mostly originate because of the heights of despondency and lack of belief in the improvement of the situation or guilt. A small amount of guilt is welcome as it works to check the innate maniac attitude of us. Beyond that any guilt is not welcome for whatever be its origin.
The more ambitious one it’s possible that in case of being uneventful or facing a failure in a particular case, one may take the extreme step. It's more common in societies where personal achievement is given more importance than in societies where social achievement is given more weightage. Suicides are common in cities and more so in individuals in isolation.
According to a view, suicide is the best possible remedy for the one who commit it but worse for the near ones as the always suffer from the pangs that he could have made a difference. Delhi Metro has recorded great no. of suicides and the impact of such events on the psychology of fellow travellers, drivers and people at large have yet to be explored completely.
What is disturbing about suicides is the sheer diversity of reasons for which people commit one- it may be the isolation for security forces from their near and dear ones, on the other hand it may be a bad investment for some, it may be a crop failure and systematic alienation from the existing organization or the delayed justice and subsequent desperation for 'solution' from the pending problems, in another case it may be a way of 'saving of resources' for others in case of terminally ill patients or the lack of importance/ respect in case of those who are no more at the center of affairs-old age individuals, another case may be of those, who have been part of a system for so long, that even an improvement in the condition would be too uncomfortable for them, expectation from peers are cause de importance in case of students while the sheer helplessness in case of Dalit’s and loss of social prestige or self-respect in case of rape victims, lack of opportunity or the hopelessness may be another alienating point. Bad parenting or no vent for the pressure is the raison- d-etre for adolescents.
I don't know what goes inside the head of such individuals, but what they definitely forget is there importance in a system like pixels. However small they are, they will be missed definitely once they are gone- you may or may not notice them when they are there. Your contribution to economy- money you create, emotional- support to family and friends, enterprising- new initiatives which you can take and can bring change- opportunity to do something new!
Another reason may be the lack worthy of the goal/purpose which the Psychotherapist Viktor Frankl talks about in his book- Men's Search for Purpose. A must read book-at least the part dealing with concentration camp, I must say.

Need for desperate measures
The point however which usually comes out in more than one case is that over a prolonged period, warnings are being ignored, responsible individuals are too involved to notice even the most obvious of symptoms and in the name of giving space they avoid all the responsibility.
If the desperation would be the only reason there is no doubt that many of the street roamers or those without any assets would have committed suicide long ago but it simply don’t happens.
If people without  formal education, support and namely without any asset of worth- don't lose hope and live today to fight another day, the recurring cases of suicides in resource-rich and talented people is an issue of serious importance.

Economics of such steps
One would be at great pain to find out the economic cost of suicide and the real Return on Investment on the human resource if things wouldn't have been that bad. I believe in economics and such desperate measures over the long period of time would have incurred huge financial implication on the society and an economic study would reveal many more sad truths about this unhappy fact. Such cost to nation itself would be humongous and I believe all the preventive steps possible should be taken to counter the same.

Indian Penal Code and its absurdity
India is a mix place- for different people it has different meanings. It is too good when it is implementing archaic laws and requires no mind application!
One of the such result is the failed suicides are illegal and are a Criminal Offence under Section 309 of IPC which is a punishable offence with an imprisonment of up to 1 year of fine as well.
Govt has initiated a review in the response of the PIL formed in Supreme Court in 2009 but things are still pending. However in its present role, it affects medical aid as doctors out of fear of prosecution hardly take initiatives in cases related with suicides and victims and their friends and families till no end.

Some ways
A national level helpline with dedicated team may be the first worthy step in such direction.
A series of positive efforts are required to reduce such an unfortunate outcome. Creating an atmosphere where individuals with not so lucky background and against many odds have registered success should be shared and celebrated.
Study of different types of suicides (Academic pressure, Credit or finance or self-respect) and causes and steps which can be taken to effectively mitigate the same.

Office perks are tricky stuff.

Office perks are creative bondage stuff- you are enamored by the concept and fatally. You believe your office recognizes your expertise and talent and therefore  giving you phones, laptops, cars etc. You feel motivated, what you forget is that it comes at great cost. Cost of personal things like small moments. With gadgets and perks, come the stupid deadlines, your physical tracking and the "URGENT MAILS". Yet the issue is not that simple- at every stage there is some more perk and some less freedom.

Mobiles phones are terrible things. You get paid a pittance in form of reimbursement and you chose to give your all the time, resources and mood to anyone interested in hitting precisely 3 keys to make a call/mail.

Reimbursements are great relief and you enjoy those small back of the mind comforts where you gladly call your colleagues and share the fun of office without worrying much about the bills.

Electronic Perks specially are heights of stupidity- to borrow an equipment at the cost of your personal moments. One should enjoy such things more as a luxury than as a necessity. Phone/Laptops/Pads are  luxury not a necessity and hence shouldn't come at personal cost.

A beauty with the phone is that it makes us a multi-tasker and save us from those small uncomfortable moments when we are sharing a common space with a stranger where we need not talk to them  yet might have to communicate if an uncomfortable amount of time passes!! Also if it comes with a great credit limit, even better and what if you get a communicator from office itself?!

In movie Ghost Rider(Nicolas Cage), he sells his soul to the devil to get what he want. He eventually gets what he wants, yet he lose his identity. May not be the best of bargain for most.

Gyaan Time- Peace is necessity- get back to the old times- use things wisely and time poetically and priority wise!!

Silence

It’s a wonderful thing.
Half of time I feel I shouldn’t have said this/that
Half of the time I regret he/she shouldn’t have said this/that
I guess communication through writing methods could be an interesting thing to try!
Somehow always staying away from speaking aloud (or giving a speech)
I acknowledge the power of speech and its difference outcomes
However I am awfully in awe of silence
If a dime for a great speech,
I will give 2 to maintain silence!!

Newspapers- invention to perpetuate agony!

As they say- History is written by winner, news too is an outcome of the tussle of those who can afford to influence decisions as per their ability.

At the core, I believe its an awesome inventions to maintain the perpetual saga of brutality. All newspapers talk about are the things where nothing new happens- more things change, more they remain the same.

If by chance you happen to get hold of old newspaper, you will get to read same regionalism, dowry, poverty, sports, miracles, corruption cases, migration, murder, problems of eternity, crony capitalism, archaic demands of oldies and the sudden accidents.

In fact as one read about it one realizes that if we consider it a reflection of our society, we have not evolved much since the invention of printing!!

Football- I miss you every second year !!

People in North India get accustomed to the beauty of football every second year- once during Football world cup and again during Olympics. (Euro Cup, Africa Cup and America Cup  and different clubs are merely names!!)

In movie Vicky Donor, the protagonist is impressing the father of the girl by showing his knowledge of Bengal as the girl's family is from Bengal. Vicky impresses the father by sharing about the song AMOR SHONAR BANGLA, Didi and Guru Dev and then he says that "I also know about Mohan- the one who plays football"!!
Girl's Father- Mohan? You mean Mohan Bagan??! It is a team- its a football team
Vicky- USNE TEAM BANA LI??!!

The particular incident is an indication of the knowledge of the people of the north of this game and what the cricket crazies think about this game of the ball and foot.

There are so many of different games which require completely different set of skills and the beauty quotient is different too.

F1 Racing is captivating to the extent where the connoisseurs get enthralled by the curves and tracks, Lawn Tennis will enrapture you the way game unfolds and the two way movement of the ball looks almost magical sans the grunts, table tennis is the epitome of acrobats and displays beauty at small scale but never on small level, cricket is relatively slow and results are not immediate yet the fun lies in smoothness and the way cleverly game changes sides session by session( or in T20 over by over).

While the games with any sort of equipment like racing, golf, cycling, cricket, football, tennis, hockey and even gully danda requires some rules and a certain adherence to the protocols- no where the sheer humanness of the game come to the fore as in athletics. 100 m race is iconic in every format and the way half of the world knows about B.O.L.T. proves that those 9 or 10 seconds have attention of many years of time.

Yet the sheer skulduggery where you marvel with the beauty and sympathies with the opponent reach almost stratospheric heights while watching football.

I guess humans are basically lazy (proof is the types of machines) and would rather not a know a thing than know a thing, if it really don't bothers them( don't believe me?- I bet more people would know about Woods than about the basic rules of Golf!) so in my opinion traditionally world over more of those games are enjoyed which have got simple rules i.e. 100m race of Olympics and 22 men running after a  ball enthralls the psyche of the masses where hunter gatherer society, men were used to chase and hunt in groups!!

So my animal instincts are happy to enjoy- Zidanes passing round figure with millimetric precision  Maradonas marauding helpless Englishs and Ronahldinhos swerving kicks!

Game of football you may not have gained the certain no. of eyes hours of mine yet believe me, the beautiful passes and the sheer uncertainty of the next moments keeps me hooked a lot at least during semis and finals of Olympics and World Cups!!

A Northy Cricket Crazy who can watch repeat telecast of any era of cricket match! :)

Irresponsibility of Intellectuals

Recently I came across two very brazen views  of intellectuals who were far too apart from the normalcy.

it was a college student based in London which finally gave the idea of Pakistan and although ludicrous at its inception, the idea was worth its salt once taken by the maestros of land and blood.
It was poet Iqbal who after giving the SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA HINDOSTAN HAMARA eventually fell to the ideas of a separate nation. By no means, such steps were  acceptable as something very unplanned act was going on which involved great amount of agony to the mankind and the animals alike- i really wonder what would be the say of the land, river and mountains- wouldn't they had missed their normal dwellers? It was a reckless act for the intellectuals to support or even entertain such divisive tendencies in the first place.

Recently I came across, another spectrum where VS Naipaul took great courage in justifying fall of Babri Masjid as "an act of passion" and as passion leads to creativity, he found the episode OK. The sheer unemotional and almost apathetic response to a situation even when the kind of divisive role it had in the diversion of communities and in the retrospect, it appears too much to justify by any logic.

While a great amount of literature and mental space has been allocated to the  unfortunate and unnatural distance between the two communities, it is brazen act for the opinion-maker writers and others to take views which is not in sync with the harmony of the individuals and the country and against the concept of humanity.

I think the pertinent question still remain unanswered is "Ishwar Allah Tere Jahan mein Nafrat Kyun hain Bair hain Kyun?"
